Children taking part in the Academy of Excellence this year at Ohio University Southern are gaining a wide range of knowledge through the different classes offered to students.

“This is the 35th anniversary of the Academy of Excellence,” Lisa Cantrell, OUS advising and orientation coordinator, said. “This year the students are more involved with classes with college professors.”

The camp is a week shorter this year to allow students the opportunity to interact with college professors.

“Schools starting extra curricular activities and things sooner is why we made it a week shorter. In the past, we started running into those things,” Linda Mann, early childhood education and childhood development coordinator, said. “They also wanted us to involve college professors, so we asked some of the professors what they can offer to children of the community.”

The academy is split up into two sections, grades 1-3 and grades 4-6, and offers classes that teach the students a variety of subjects. For more about the Academy of Excellence, see the Focus page in Sunday’s Tribune.
