Lucas part of C-K sports weekend

KENOVA, W.Va. — The former Ceredo-Kenova High School is planning a weekend celebration of its state championship teams and former Coal Grove Hornets’ head football coach Dave Lucas will be part of the festivities.

Lucas — who had a Hall of Fame career at Coal Grove and Wellston — was a standout lineman on the 1965 Wonders’ Class AA state championship.

Lucas went on to play at Marshall University. During his 34-year career, Lucas posted a 222-104-1 record that included 20 Ohio Valley Conference titles and 10 playoff appearances.

The 18th annual C-K Sports Weekend will begin at 7 p.m. Friday with a dinner in the Kenova Unite Methodist Church.

Also being recognized are the 1975 Class AA state football champions and the 1995 state baseball title team.

The Eric Sparks Memorial Tournament will be held at 8 a.m. on Saturday at Silo Golf Course.
