Briggs Lawrence County Library is gearing up for the grand finale of its youth summer reading program. The theme for this year’s program is “Every Hero has a Story.” The concluding celebration will offer entertainment based on the super hero theme.

“It’s a reward for what (program participants) have done,” said Cheryl Blankenship, children’s librarian.

Dancers from Jeslyn Dance Gallery will perform dance sequences that incorporate the super hero theme.

“They take the theme and do a collection…to various books or poems or anything that meets our theme,” said Blankenship. “They do it very well and people seem to like it.”

Jessica Fox, who is choreographing the dances, said the group is taking inspiration for the dances from children’s literature.

“The performance will last about 30 minutes,” said Fox.

At the event, young people will have the opportunity to participate in the dances.

“The goal is that we are really listening to what the children themselves are expressing in the moment,” said Fox.

Jeslyn Dance Gallery has provided entertainment for the program for several years and hopes their performance will encourage young people to be passionate about reading.

“It’s always a blessing to come back and do this,” said Fox. “It’s super exciting to go into the libraries.”

The Briggs summer reading program celebrations will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the main branch and at 4 p.m. in Symmes Valley, 2 p.m. Tuesday in Proctorville, 2 p.m. Wednesday in South Point, and at 2 p.m. Thursday in Chesapeake.
