Seth Saunders will soon battle fires and help the city as he was sworn in Monday morning as the newest member of the Ironton Fire Department.

“I’m looking forward to helping the people out and serving the people of Ironton,” Saunders said.

Saunders is from the Symmes Valley area, but currently lives in Ironton. Before becoming a firefighter, Saunders worked for Front Range Environmental LLC, a manhole rehabilitation company, as well as the United States Army Reserve, where he served overseas in 2010 and 2011.

“It’s good to have not just a job, but a career. Those are two totally different things,” Saunders said. “I know this is the last job I’ll ever have.”
