Ironton Catholic Schools Flyer 5K set for Saturday

The Ironton Catholic Schools Flyer 5K sponsored by Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital and Ironton Urgent Care is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Saturday.

“This is the fifth year for the 5K,” Cara Clark, assistant development director of the Ironton Catholic schools, said. “It helps support the students and teachers of both St. Lawrence Elementary and St. Joseph High School.”

The race will start at St. Joseph High School at Fifth and Quincy streets and will go through Ironton traveling east on Sixth Street, turning right on Vernon, right on Seventh, right on Ellison, right on Fourth, right on Vernon, right on Fifth and left on Chestnut just passed Sixth, where the race will conclude.

Restrooms will be available at the start and finishing areas and a water station will be at the halfway point of the race. A spray station will be set up for participants at the fire department on Fourth and Jefferson streets and food and door prizes will also be provided following the race. Music will be played before and during the event as well and medical care will be on scene.

The cost to register for the race is $25 on race day and registration will be from 7-7:45 a.m. Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female finishers as well as the top three male and female finishers in each age division; 10 and under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74 and 75 and over.

Last year’s event drew 194 entries with Tim Secoy securing the top overall male award with a time of 19:05 and Lisa Johnson claiming the top overall female award with a time of 23:18.
