Marie Allen

Marie Hankins Allen, 89, of Brandon, Florida, and formerly of Ironton, entered into eternal rest on July 30, 2015.

She was a former member of Arabia Baptist Church and Coal Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Ohio, and Sovereign Grace Baptist Church in Florida, and was a current member Bible Baptist Church in Florida. She worked at the Ironton, J.C. Penney’s store for over 20 years. Her greatest joy was her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Allen; and siblings, Donald Hankins, Frank Berger, and Everette “Hank” Hankins. She is survived by her children, Jane Allen Ocheltree of Brandon, Florida, Dr. Jean Joviak, of Ocala, Florida, Danny Allen (Marilyn), of Seffner, Florida and Katherine Sarginson (Donny), of Illinois; grandchildren, Julie Reardon (Derek), Trisha Whitzel (Raymond), and Matthew Allen (Jennifer); great-grandchildren, Haley, Joshua, and Mac; and many nieces and nephews.

Nellie Remy

Nellie Marie Remy, 90, of Ironton, passed away Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015, at a local health care facility. The Lawrence County native was born Nov. 4, 1924, daughter of the late George Harrison Howell and Bessie Marybelle Pennington Howell. She is survived by her husband, Ronald Remy, Sr., whom she married Sept. 1, 1993.

Nellie retired in 1978 after serving as senior nurse technician at Doctors North Hospital in Columbus. She attended Freedom Baptist Church on Oak Ridge Road.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by son, George H. Wilson; first husband, James Wilson; second husband, Sherlon Wills; third husband, Clyde Martin; sister, Pansy Finley; sister, Annabelle Dillon; sister, Verna Brown; sister, Pauline Boggs; and brother, Sherman Howell.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter, Patsy Ann (Pirate) Harris, of Columbus; daughter, Shirley (James) Lott, of Columbus; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. James Cremeans officiating. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home, with burial on Tuesday at Woodland Cemetery. Paul Kazee

Paul Jennings Kazee, Jr., 60, of South Point, died Friday, July 31, 2015, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, West Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Karen Kazee. Funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville. Louise Chaffins

Mrs. Louise Chaffins, 91, of South Point, went to be with the Lord Friday, July 31, 2015, surrounded by love with her children and grandchildren. The Lawrence County native was born July 16, 1924, a daughter of the late Harrison and Rosabelle Woods Morgan.

She worked at the local ration board during World War II where she met her husband, Shelton J. Chaffins, who had just returned from the war. They were married for 47 years at his death in 1991. After her marriage, she was a homemaker, raising six children. Louise had a deep abiding faith in God and last attended Lick Creek Independent Baptist Church in South Point. She loved to write poetry, crochet, and tell witty jokes. She was loved by everyone who was touched by her life.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Harrison Morgan, Alfred Morgan, and Walter Morgan; and four sisters, Alberta Morgan, Thelma Ison, Nellie Wagner, and Garnet Morgan.

She is survived by four sons, Shelton (Carol) Chaffins II, of Flatwoods, Kentucky, Raymond (Penny) Chaffins of Flatwoods, Kentucky, the Rev. Robert (Linda) Chaffins, of South Point, and Keith (Donna) Chaffins, of Ironton; and two daughters, Linda (Harry) Mulkey, of Ironton and Barbara (Paul) Toney, of South Point. She was loved by 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at noon Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Chaffins and Paul Toney officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and visitation will be Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home. Evelyn Legg, 90, of Proctorville, died Sunday, Aug. 2, 2015, at River’s Bend Health Care in South Point. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville.
