The Ironton Fire Department has promoted Mike Mahlmeister. The promotion follows the retirement of previous chief Tom Runyon.

Mahlmeister previously served as the department’s inspector, and will be sworn in as chief at 10 a.m. Monday at the fire station.

Those with captain positions in the department will take a test early next week in order for a chance to become the new inspector, while at the same time those with lieutenant positions will take a test in order to replace that captain.

Those positions can’t be filled until test results are reviewed.
