Another mediation session is set for Wednesday to attempt to resolve a lawsuit concerning the disposition of the assets of the now defunct Southeastern Ohio Emergency Medical Services.

SEOEMS, a tri-county EMS with Athens, Jackson and Lawrence counties, was dissolved in 2010 when Athens and Jackson pulled out. That forced Lawrence to start its own service in 2011.

In 2012 Lawrence County filed a lawsuit seeking more than $1 million in damages, alleging failures to reimburse the county for money owned.

According to the complaint written by Lawrence County Prosecuting Attorney Brigham Anderson, upon the dissolution of SEOEMS assets and debts were to be distributed according to the formula of 40 percent to go to Athens, 40 percent to Lawrence and 20 percent to Jackson.

“SEOEMS was required to reimburse Lawrence County for receipts paid over expenditures,” the lawsuit states.

That adds up to $169,851 in 2008; $118,750 in 2009; and $12,795 in 2010, which is the amount Lawrence County officials say a state audit showed was owed to the county by the SEOEMS.

“The delay is finding out what actual bills are out there for SEOEMS and get a definite number and who is going to pay,” Anderson said. “I am optimistic we can resolve it this week.”
