First Baptist Church of Ironton will host a block party Friday to get children pumped about returning to school and to offer families an alternative weekend activity.

The Free-For-All Block Party will be from 5-9 p.m. on Vernon Street between South Fourth and Fifth streets.

Tyler Whaley, deacon of the church and co-organizer of the event, said the block party is an offshoot of last year’s clothing giveaway.

“We did the clothing giveaway last year,” Whaley said. “We just thought it would be a good going back to school kick-off for the community.”

There will be a dunk tank, inflatables, carnival games, food and musical entertainment, all free to the community.

“That’s why we went with the Free-For-All name,” Whaley said.

The block party will also feature a clothing giveaway, as well as free lunch boxes for school children.

“We are going to give away clothes for anybody who is in need of back-to-school, as well as adults,” he said.
