HSJ wins 5-team golf match

PINE GROVE — This one went to the out-of-state team.

The Huntington St. Joe Fighting Irish won a five-team golf match Monday at the Ironton Country Club, the only team from outside of Lawrence County.

The Irish had a 163 team score to win the match. The Coal Grove Hornets were next at 180, the Ironton Fighting Tigers just two shots back at 182, the Fairland Dragons finished at 209 and the St. Joseph Flyers posted a 212 score.

Josef Dransfeld took medalist honors with a 34 for the Irish. Rainel Lansong shot a 39, Fuzzy Vance 41, Kylie Day 49 and Jordan Leonard 50.

Trevor Deere had a 37 to lead the Hornets. Alex Gillette shot a 44, Jed Whitworth 49 and Ryan Malone 50.

The trio of Mitchell Weisgarber, Chandler Dodson and Cory Rawlins led Ironton as each carded a 45, Mason Slagel had a 47 and Trevin Dutey 54.

Hayden James fired a 39 to pace Fairland. Cameron Shepherd had a 50, Eli Bowen 57 and Dillon Raines 63.

James Carter posted a 47 to top the Flyers. Zac McGraw was next with a 51, Chase Walters 54, Seth Kelley 60 and Isaac Walker had a 66.

Ironton visits Portsmouth on Thursday.
