It’s not so much the value of what’s stolen that can land a person in prison, but more the act of breaking into a home.

A Nelsonville man learned that lesson the hard way on Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.

Joshua Mullins, 28, of 7 W. 29 Drive, pleaded guilty to a fourth-degree count of burglary on Wednesday in Judge D. Scott Bowling’s courtroom.

The man stole cans of beer, soda, Ramen noodles and a can of Chef Boyardee lasagna from a home on County Road 60 in South Point, as well as a girl’s bicycle that he rode from the residence.

Bowling sentenced the man to one year in prison.

In other cases:

• James Helton, 24, of 1512 S. 11th St., Ironton, admitted community control sanctions violations and was sentenced to 111 days in prison with credit for time served.

• Fallon Payne, 20, of 9371 County Road 1, South Point, was arraigned on a fifth-degree count of trafficking in heroin, to which she pleaded not guilty. Bowling set bond at $10,000 own recognizance and continued a $5,000 surety bond from a lower court. A pretrial was set for Sept. 16.

• Kimberly Johnson, 24, of 165 Township Road 1034, South Point, was arraigned on a bill of information of second-degree felonious assault, to which she pleaded not guilty. Bowling set bond at $10,000 OR and a pretrial was set for Sept. 9.

• Samuel Butler, 48, of 420 Front St. Apt. 1, Proctorville, was arraigned on a bill of information of fifth-degree failure to notify change of address, to which he pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to 12 months in prison.

• Katie Roush, 30, of 908 Marion Pike, Coal Grove, was sentenced to four years CCS for a fifth-degree count of possession of drugs, to which she previously pleaded guilty. Bowling also ordered her to complete treatment at the Linda Center, 200 hours of community service, suspended her driver’s license for six months, ordered her to pay a $1,250 fine.

• Dustin Fulks, 21, of 109 Garden Court, South Point, pleaded guilty to three fifth-degree counts of trafficking in heroin. Bowling set bond at $10,000 OR and set sentencing for Aug. 26.

• Jennifer Flora, 25, of 6471 Merrits Creek Road, Huntington, pleaded guilty to a fourth-degree count of failure to appear and a fifth-degree count of possession of a controlled substance. She was sentenced to four years CCS under intensive supervised probation, STAR community justice center, a six-month driver’s license suspension and 200 hours community service.

• Lori Zundell, 51, of 83 Township Road 1212, Proctorville, pleaded guilty to a fifth-degree count of possession of drugs and a misdemeanor count of selling, purchasing, distributing or delivering dangerous drugs. Bowling sentenced the woman to four years CCS/ISP, STAR and 200 hours community service.

• Paul McMackin, 56, of 201 Compliment St., Coal Grove, pleaded guilty to one fourth- and three fifth-degree counts of trafficking in drugs. Bowling set sentencing for Sept. 9.

• Charles Lewis, 43, of 106 Ferguson, St. Apt. 2, South Point, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of attempted possession of drugs and was sentenced to 77 days in jail.

• Jonlee Boggs, 31, of 217 Township Road 1430 Apt. 6, South Point, admitted CCS violations and was sentenced to five months in prison.

• Amanda Dempsey, 31, of 1403 County Road 171, Scottown, was sentenced to four years CCS/ISP for a fifth-degree count of possession of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug abuse instruments. Judge Charles Cooper also sentenced the woman to inpatient drug treatment, 90 days in jail suspended, a six-month driver’s license suspension and a $1,250 fine.

• John Large 36, of 26 Private Drive 1633 County Road 59, Chesapeake, pleaded guilty to a fourth-degree count of failure to appear and a fifth-degree count of possession of a controlled substance. Cooper sentenced the man to 15 months in prison, a six-month driver’s license suspension and a $1,250 fine.

• Homer Anson, 27, of 96 Private Drive 239, South Point, was sentenced to four years CCS/ISP and STAR for a fourth-degree count of aggravated assault and a misdemeanor count of aggravated menacing, to which he previously pleaded guilty. He was also ordered to stay away from the victims in the case.
