6 arrested in drug bust

The Lawrence Drug and Major Crimes Task Force arrested six people in the South Point and Chesapeake area this week for selling prescription pills or heroin.

According to a release from the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office, an investigation began about two months ago with controlled buys of oxycodone from a person known at the time as Wires.

On Monday, a search warrant was executed at the Lawrence Village Apartments in South Point, at which time Wires, identified as Dujuan Williams, 26, of 16012 McGuire St., Detroit, Michigan, was arrested. Oxycodone tablets were recovered, according to the press release.

Following William’s arrest, five others were arrested at their homes. They were: Claudette Gibson, 41, and Phillip McMullen, 34, both of 49 Township Road 1013, South Point; Nichole McDerment, 35, of 69 Township Road 1026, South Point; Larry Curry, 51, of 791 County Road 31, Chesapeake; and Andy Baise, 38, of 38 County Road 1, South Point.

All suspects were charged with trafficking in heroin and/or oxycodone. Their cases will be presented to a grand jury next week.

The drug task force is a collaboration of the following agencies: The Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office; Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office; the Ironton, Hanging Rock, Coal Grove, South Point, Chesapeake and Proctorville police departments; Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Lawrence County Coroner’s Office.
