Faye Rodd

Nov. 3, 1930—Aug. 22, 2015

Faye Adams Rodd passed away Aug. 22, 2015, at the age of 84. She was born Nov. 3, 1930, in Coal Grove, to the late Lina and Forest Dalton. On Dec. 24, 1948, she married Mel Adams who preceded her in death. Her greatest love was for her family. She is survived by two children, Stephen Adams (LaVonne), of Michigan and Lynn Adams Swaney (Bob), of Marion; seven grandchildren: Aaron Adams, Adam Adams, Kimberly Adams, Chad Swaney, Tara Swaney Warrington, Abby Swaney Yoakam, and Joel Swaney; five great-grandchildren, Griffin, Madelyn Faye, and Mason Warrington, and Bennett and Elliott Yoakam; a sister, Effie McKenzie; a sister-in-law, Mildred Phillips, two special nieces, Jan McKenzie and Ruth Potter; and special nephews, Paul Zimmerman and Bill Phillips. She was also loved by her second husband, Charles Rodd’s children; Peggy, Sharon, Kathie, Rebecca, and David. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 48 years, Mel Adams, and her second husband of 10 years Charles Rodd; a brother Alvin Dalton; and a sister, Dorothy Zimmerman. Faye graduated from Ohio University and was a beloved elementary school teacher for 27 years. Her students most remember her for her love of poetry, which she recited and shared with them. She loved to share her childhood memories of growing up during the Depression, and even published a book about these times. Never forgetting these roots, she always gave generously to any who had a need. A member of Central Baptist Church, Faye had an unwavering faith in her Savior. She and Mel helped establish the First Baptist Church in Logan, having the initial meetings in their basement. Faye enjoyed life, good music, and friends. She made friends swimming at the YMCA and regularly invited friends to play cards at her home. She was a voracious reader and an avid Reds’ fan (when they won). Calling hours will be Wednesday, from 5-7 p.m. at the Boyd Funeral Home, Marion, followed by the funeral service at 7 p.m. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery in Ironton on Friday. Elbert Hopper

Elbert “Vic” Hopper, 86, of Ironton, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, at a local health care center. Arrangements are pending at Phillips Funeral Home.

 

 

John Tatsch

John Sunday Tatsch, 78, of Flatwoods, Kentucky, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015, at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Diana Rich Tatsch. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods, as well as 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at William Murphy Funeral Home in Rochester, Pennsylvania.

Burial will be private at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Freedom, Pennsylvania.
