Elbert Hopper

Elbert “Vic” Hopper, Sr. 86, of Hanging Rock, passed away Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, at Sanctuary of the Ohio Valley. The Wayland, Kentucky, native was born March 17, 1929, a son to the late Noah and Tony (Collins) Hopper. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Doris Oakley Hopper, who passed away Jan. 21, 2009.

Mr. Hopper attended Wayland High School in Floyd County, Kentucky. Mr. Hopper was a former self-employed business owner of Vic’s Bait Shop, Hopper’s Trucking and Vic’s Towing Company. He was also a former employee of the Ohio Department of Transportation. Mr. Hopper served as a former mayor of Hanging Rock, a trustee for Hamilton Township and a member of the Republican Central Committee. He was a member of the Eagles, Moose and VFW. Mr. Hopper was a member of the Hanging Rock Nazarene Church, where he was a licensed minister.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph Davis Hopper, Glen Leslie Hopper and Bob Carver; and sister, Patty Hopper Castle.

He is survived by four sons, Vic Hopper, Jr., of Hanging Rock, Mike (Gloria) Hopper, of Ironton, Jack Hopper, of Ironton and Mark (Donna Sue) Hopper, of Hecla; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends who will miss him.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Leon Dalton officiating. Burial will follow in Haverhill Cemetery. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Thursday until time of the service at the funeral home. Linda Kilgore

Linda Kilgore, 71, of Chesapeake, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia. She is survived by her husband, Robert Parsons. Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, with pastor Brady Lipscomb officiating. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville.
