Thanks to the speed of Lynsey Booker, the St. Joseph Female Flyers got off to a fast start.

Booker scored three first half goals and added an assist as the Female Flyers took a 6-0 first half lead and went on to blank the Portsmouth West Lady Senators 7-0 on Tuesday.

“Lynsey Booker was excellent and used her speed and skill to get three first half goals,” said St. Joseph coach Kyle Weatherholt.

“We moved the ball well, made good runs and made good decisions which led to us creating numerous scoring chances.”

Also scoring first half goals were Emma Saxby, Ophelia Weatherholt and Natalie Heaberlin.

“Natalie Heaberlin had an outstanding game. She’s very solid in defensive midfield andshe highlighted her great all-around performance with an outstanding header goal from Saxby cross to end the first half,” said coach Weatherholt.

“Emma Saxby and Kaylee Sheridan once again played great in the midfield.”

Coach Weatherholt used the second half to move players around and get experience for some younger players.

Meghan Riley got the only goal of the half with an assist from Emma Williams.

“I’m fairly pleased with where we are right now as a team,” said Weatherholt who also praised the goalie tandem of Karl Young and Ashley Bartram.

“One area I’m particularly pleased with is at the goalkeeper position. Coming into the season that was the big question mark. Sophomores Young and Bartram have stepped into that position and are doing really well.”

St. Joseph (2-0) hosts Wheelersburg at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
