Steve McGuire

Aug. 18, 1941—Aug. 27, 2015

Warren Steven McGuire, 74, of Jupiter, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015, while visiting family in Ohio. He was born in Ironton, on Aug. 18, 1941. Steve was the son of Warren and Marie McGuire.

Steve retired from the USAF as a Chief Master Sergeant after 23 years. He was assigned to Air Force One and the Presidential fleet while in the Air Force. Steve worked for Pratt & Whitney in Jupiter, retiring in 1984. Later he worked as an independent consultant for local engineering firms.

Steve is survived by his wife Linda of 50 years; son Shane (Diane); grandchildren, Liam and Brooke McGuire, Justin Davis; sister Kay Edwards; and his faithful companion Chloe, a standard poodle. He was preceded in death by his son Shawn and brother Kenny.

Jane Hastings

Sept. 5, 1942—Sept. 1, 2015

Jane C. Hastings, 72, of South Point, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015, at King’s Daughters’ Medical Center, Ashland. She was born Sept. 5, 1942, in Burnwell, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Frank Barker and Ella Mae Ratliff Barker. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, David Barker and Jack Barker; and a sister, Margaret Stewart. Jane was a former employee of Corbin, Ltd. and Logan Packing Co. She is survived by her husband, Elmer G. Hastings; a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Amy Berry, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two brothers, Dan Barker, of Luce Dale, Mississippi and Sam Barker, of South Point; a sister, Emma Lou Shope, of South Point; and her mother-in-law, Gertrude Hastings, of South Point. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home with evangelist Ray Knapp officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point. Jerry Meadows

April 17 1944—Aug. 31, 2015

Jerry D. Meadows, 71, of Jackson, passed away Monday Aug. 31, 2015, at his residence. The Lawrence County native was born April 17, 1944, a son of the late Stanley and Stella Clarkston Meadows.

Jerry attended Waterloo High School and was a U.S. Army veteran. He retired in 2004 as a design engineer. Jerry loved to work, was a jack of all trades and could do anything. He started his career as a machinist, then at tool and die maker and ended as a design engineer. He had a machine shop for several years and was a former machinist class teacher at the Green Joint Vocational School in Xenia. His daughter was his pride and joy that he called “Princess Too Sweet.” His favorite catchphrase was “If I can’t, my girl can do it”

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Glen, David and Ray Meadows; mother-in-law, Virginia Crawford Arbaugh; and father-in-law, William Arbaugh.

He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Linda Arbaugh Meadows, whom he married Nov. 7, 1964; a daughter, Vicki Meadows, of Jackson; a brother, Jim (Tonnia) Meadows, of Waterloo; sister, Flo (Don) Smith of Cambridge; and sister, Myrtle (Sammy) Mitchell, of Waterloo.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with JD Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in Flagsprings Cemetery with military graveside rites by the VFW Post 8850 and visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Haney Heffner

Haney Heffner, 83 of Chesapeake, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015 at home. Funeral service will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville. Burial will follow in Union Hill Cemetery, Chesapeake. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
