Jo Ann Pierce

Jo Ann Dillon Pierce, 71, of Carolina Shores, North Carolina, became victorious over her battle with sickness and pain on Oct. 1, 2015, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center, Bolivia, North Carolina, and entered into the eternal joys of our Heavenly Father.

Originally from Coal Grove, she was preceded in death by her father, John Samuel Dillon Sr.; mother, Anna Bel Dillon; and brother, Johnny Dillon. She is survived by her husband of nearly 52 years, Nick Pierce; a son, Kevin (Kelly), of Ocean Isle, North Carolina; a brother, Jerry Dillon (Rhonda), of Coal Grove; and daughter, Katrina Flanagan, of Cross Lanes, West Virginia.

She is also survived by the loves of her life, her grandsons, Andrew and Benjamin Flanagan and a granddaughter, Madelyn Poore of Calabash, North Carolina; three beautiful great grandchildren, Kyleigh, Harper and K.J. Poore; and numerous nieces and nephews, all whom she treasured.

Jo Ann was a graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School and applied her fine bookkeeping skills at Wilson Sporting Goods, Ironton, Royal Crown Cola Bottling Company, Charleston, West Virginia and finished out her accounting career with The Virginia Army National Guard in Richmond, Virginia. In 2002 she became a pastor’s wife and served alongside her husband Nick as they ministered in Virginia and North Carolina. She was very instrumental in starting a children’s ministry at Piedmont Baptist Church in Amelia Court House, Virginia.

Weather permitting, a grave site service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at North Myrtle Beach Memorial Gardens in Little River, South Carolina in the Veteran’s Honor Section and will be conducted by the Rev. J. Chester Bird of Charleston, West Virginia, and Jeremy Dillon, of Coal Grove. If weather does not permit, the service will be at Lee Funeral Home in Little River, South Carolina.

The family requests that memorial donations be made in her name to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center, 955 Mercy Lane SE, Bolivia, NC, 28422. “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”

 

 Brian Hysell

Brian Scott Hysell, 48, of Proctorville, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Theresa Hysell. Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville. Burial will follow in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Proctorville.  Lena Mallar

Lena Marie Mallar, 40, of Ironton, died Monday, Oct. 5, 2015, at Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland, Kentucky. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Woodland Cemetery, Ironton. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville is in charge of arrangements. Lew Sharp

Lew W. Sharp, 89, of South Point, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015, in Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington. Arrangements are pending at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home, Chesapeake.
