ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — The Ohio defense came up with four interceptions, including Quentin Poling’s 25-yard pick-6, to help the Bobcats beat Miami (Ohio) 34-3 on Saturday.
Derrius Vick completed 21 of 33 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown and Sebastian Smith tied a career high with nine receptions for 91 yards and a score for Ohio (5-1, 2-0 Mid-American).
Daz’mond Patterson’s 2-yard touchdown run capped an 11-play, 89-yard drive with 10:14 left in the first quarter and Smith’s 6-yard scoring catch put the Bobcats up 14-0 early in the second.
The teams traded field goals to make it 17-3 going into the half and, on the first play from scrimmage in the third quarter, Poling jumped in front of a Billy Bahl pass intended for Sam Martin, broke a tackle and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown.
Miami (1-5, 0-2) converted just 1 of 10 third downs and finished with 253 total yards.
The Bobcats host Western Michigan at noon next Saturday in a MAC game.
