SSU offers new study abroad programs through The Kentucky Institute for International Studies

PORTSMOUTH — Shawnee State University is offering new opportunities for both students and faculty to study and teach abroad through The Kentucky Institute for International Studies (KIIS).

KIIS offers 26 four-week Summer Study Abroad Programs in 23 different countries. This program meets the needs of students who can only afford to study abroad on a short-term program during a summer semester. Students can use their financial aid towards the program and will also take stx credit hours of course work from Western Kentucky University.

Some of the programs offered through KIIS include nursing in Tanzania, Africa, education in Germany and Costa Rica, business administration in Argentina and Austria, Spanish language in Spain and Costa Rica, psychology in Denmark and Austria, and many more.

The deadline for students to sign up for 2016 programs will be Feb. 15, 2016.

KIIS also opens up new teaching opportunities for SSU faculty. Faculty members will receive benefits, such as a $2,000 teaching stipend, round-trip international airfare to the program site, comprehensive medical insurance for the duration of the program, food, accommodation, travel and other overseas living expenses, professional development opportunities and many more.

The deadline for faculty members to apply to teach for the 2017 KIIS programs is March 1, 2016.

“Having a membership with KIIS will give both SSU students and faculty who can’t afford to be gone for a 15-week semester the opportunity to participate and receive that experience in a 4-week summer program,” said Ryan Warner, Director of the Center for International Programs and Activities (CIPA).
