Recount in Proctorville election set for Nov. 23

Just one vote did it. Now there will be a recount in the race for mayor of the village of Proctorville.

The official certification of the November general election on Saturday gave Proctorville businessman Brian Root one more vote, triggering an automatic recount.

The new tally gives current mayor Rick Dunfee 109 votes to Root’s 108.

The recount will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, at the Lawrence County Board of Elections.

The other close race was for Symmes Valley Board of Education but that and Fairland school board could not be certified on Saturday because Gallia County, some of whose residents vote for those two boards, had not certified its results.

All four candidates in the Ironton mayoral race upped their totals, but not to the point where the Tuesday runoff would be canceled.

Katrina Keith now has 24 more votes or 1,145; Robert Cleary 9 more or 730; John David Willis 7 more or 670; and James Tordiff 4 more or 563.

Polls open for the runoff at 6:30 a.m. at the city center and VFW Post 8850, closing at 7:30 p.m.

The winners in all other races remain the same.
