PEDRO — Two games does not a season make, but two wins in two tries is a good start.

The Rock Hill Redwomen improved their record to 2-0 with a strong defensive effort as they beat the St. Joseph Female Flyers 56-34 on Monday.

“We played pretty well. The defense was great and we controlled the boards and that was big,” said Rock Hill coach Greg Damron.

Kaci Russell had 15 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals to lead a balanced Rock Hill attack.

Anna Darby put together a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds plus a pair of steals. Sami Dillon had 9 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists.

St. Joseph (1-2) was led by Lynsey Booker with 13 points and Morgan Turner with 11. Booker had 5 rebounds and 3 assists while Turner had 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.

Rock Hill used 6 points by Russell to jump ahead 11-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The lead was 28-9 at the half and Russell and Darby scored 7 points each in the third quarter as the Redwomen extended the lead to 45-17.

On Thursday, Rock Hill opens Ohio Valley Conference play at Fairland while St. Joseph hosts Rose Hill.
