Brass Band of the Tri-State slated to perform Christmas Concert at Marshall

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Brass Band of the Tri-State, under the direction of Dr. Michael Stroeher, will present its annual Christmas concert on at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Smith Music Hall Recital Hall on the campus of Marshall University, corner of Hal Greer Boulevard and Third Avenue, in Huntington. Admission is free and open to the public.

The ensemble performs a variety of music encompassing several genres and styles including traditional brass band music from England and North America, original pieces arranged specifically for the band, musicals, marches, orchestral transcriptions, Salvation Army Band music, and popular selections. The Brass Band of the Tri-State is a member of the prestigious North American Brass Band Association.

This performance features Christmas staples of the British brass band repertoire including “A Christmas Fanfare,” “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” and a Salvation Army Brass Band arrangement of Christmas carols.

The Brass Band of the Tri-State has been in existence for over 20 years and continues to grow. It draws its members from Huntington, Ashland, Ironton, and Charleston. The ensemble consists of retirees, community members, and music students from Marshall University. Community members represent such diverse occupations as music teachers, college professors, and engineers. The group performs throughout the year and has won numerous awards on the international level at the North American Brass Association annual competitions.

The Brass Band of the Tri-State rehearses from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday evenings in the Vinson Middle School band room in the Westmoreland area of Huntington.
