PEDRO — So there’s the offense.

The St. Joseph Flyers continued to play good defense, but they also managed to find some offense as they beat the Rock Hill Redmen 69-57 on Tuesday for their first win of the season.

They Flyers averaged just 37 points in their first two games shot 54 percent from the floor and were 11-of-14 at the foul line.

“I thought we did a good job sharing the ball tonight and we finally got some guys attacking the basket,” said Flyers’ coach Kevin Sheridan.

“We tried to keep pressuring them in a full-court set and we finally started to get some turnovers and quick shots that we were able to convert on the other end.”

St. Joseph (1-2) placed four players in double figures led by Chase Walters who had 22 points and seven rebounds.

Zac McGraw had 15 points, Tyler Ward scored 13 points — all in the first half — and Trey Neal added 11 points. Isaac Whaley and Neal had three assists each while McGraw and Neal had two steals apiece.

“Chase Walters had an all-around solid effort and Zac McGraw really stepped up and played well. Tyler Ward kept us in the game in the first half,” said Sheridan.

Mason Darby led the Redmen with 20 points and Tyler Damron scored 17.

Rock Hill led 9-8 after the first quarter as Darmon scored 7 points while Ward countered with 6.

Cameron Barnette had 6 points as the Redmen went up 24-19 at the half.

Walters scored 8 points while Neal, McGraw and Whaley combined for 13 points as the Flyers rallied to take a 42-40 lead.

St. Joseph continued to heat up on offense by outscoring Rock Hill 27-17 in the fourth quarter.

Walter scored 14 points and McGraw 7 as the Flyers began to pull away. Darby had 8 points in the quarter for Rock Hill.

The Flyers got to Raceland, Ky., on Thursday while the Redmen visit Fairland on Friday.
