RACELAND, Ky. — When it comes to taking care of business, the St. Joseph Flyers are going to have to do a better job taking care of the basketball.

The Raceland Rams used a big second half to rally past the upset-minded St. Joseph Flyers 63-50 on Thursday.

The Flyers were guilty of 20 turnovers, most of which came in the second half.

“We had too many turnovers in the second half,” said Flyers’ coach Kevin Sheridan. “The kids played their butts off, we just have to get better at taking care of the ball.”

The Flyers fell behind 18-2 to start the game but went on a 6-0 run to end the quarter and it was 18-8.

The Flyers defense limited the Rams to 3 points in the second quarter and Tyler Ward scored 10 points and Zac McGraw 6 more as the Flyers rallied to take a 25-21 halftime lead.

The Flyers held the lead until Raceland surged ahead 42-37 with 1:21 left in the quarter and then led 45-40 at the end of the quarter.

Landon Adams scored 6 points while Austin Clark, Trey Mills and Tyler Morris all hit 3-pointers as the Rams outscored the Flyers 24-15. Chase Walters scored 8 points and Ward 5 to keep the Flyers close.

But the Flyers’ offense fell off in the fourth quarter with just 10 points — 8 by Walters — and the Rams got 3-pointers by Carson Christian and Morris to go up 51-46 with 5:23 to play.

“They hit a three to start the fourth quarter and we never recovered,” said Sheridan.

The Flyers (1-3) were led by Walters with 21 points and 6 rebounds. Ward had 17 points and 4 steals.

Morris scored 13 points and Christian 10 for the Rams (3-1).
