CHESAPEAKE — The Chesapeake Lady Panthers took a lesson in the stock market.

The Lady Panthers built some equity, withstood a near market collapse, then rebounded to beat the Rock Hill Redwomen 56-37 on Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“We were more aggressive tonight on offense and it paid more dividends,” said Chesapeake coach Chris Ball.

“We got a big lead and then they came back, but we managed to hit some key shots and free throws and pull away at the end.”

Chesapeake (3-1, 2-1) ran off 13 unanswered points to start the game as Natalee Hall scored 8 points. Rock Hill managed to get within 16-10 at the end of the quarter and Kaci Russell scored 5 points in the second quarter and the Redwomen trailed 25-19 at the half.

Rock Hill cut the spread to 28-26 in the third quarter, but Chesapeake regrouped as Hall scored 7 more points and the Lady Panthers were up 37-29.

Hall had 6 more points in the fourth quarter and the Lady Panthers converted 9-of-11 free throws to seal the win.

With Atiya Spaulding and Kaylee Curry sitting out a substantial amount of time in the second and third quarters due to foul trouble, Hall stepped up and scored 21 points to go with 7 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists.

Curry had 10 points and 14 rebounds, Spaulding grabbed 7 rebounds, Bailey Mills had 3 assists and Jozy Jones came off the bench to score 8 points.

“Hall played outstanding on both ends of the court. She had a breakout offensive game. Jozy Jones really stepped up rebounding and scoring some points,” said Ball.

Russell had 12 points to lead Rock Hill (3-2, 1-2). Jill Hairston scored 9 points while Anna Darby added 8.

On Monday, Chesapeake plays at Portsmouth at 7:30 in a varsity-only game while Rock Hill hosts Ironton.
