UPLAND, Indiana — Merry Christmas, Conor.

Conor Markins — a freshman who was an All-Ohio player at Coal Grove — got an early Christmas gift as he was awarded his first collegiate start on Friday against Clarke University in the 32nd Ivanhoes Classic.

Markins made the best of his 16:43 playing time by knocking down 3-of-6 field goal attempts including a pair of 3-pointers on the first two possessions of the game as he scored 8 points in a 66-62 overtime win.

He also had an assist and two rebounds from his guard position. The Bears other four starters are all listed as forwards.

Shawnee State led 31-22 at the half and it was tied at 55.

The Bears are now 6-5 on the season and played in the tournament championship game on Saturday afternoon.
