Pleasants honored as USTA Family of Year

Harold Timothy “Bubby” Pleasant, Jr. and his family received the United States Tennis Association Florida Family of the Year Award for 2015.

The Pleasants were selected Family of the Year because of their success playing, coaching and helping organize various USTA activities.

Parents Tim and Brenda, and 10-year-old Lilly, 9-year-old Timothy, 4-year-olds Charlie and Frances, and 1-year-olds Josephine and Rosemary are enough for four doubles teams.

Tim and Brenda excel in coaching, organizing, and playing tennis. The twins Josephine and Rosemary can hit foam balls over the net.

Tim is the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Bethune-Cookman University, Daytona Beach, and volunteers for USTA Early Development Camps, Junior Team Tennis, and Play Days in Volusia County.

He has advocated the 10 and Under Tennis format and the new 10 and Under Youth Tennis Tournament Pathway for several years.

Brenda works with a variety of USTA tennis programs and has helped coach her children. Daughter Lilly, 9, won the 2015 Florida state championship in the 10-and-under division.

Young Timothy won the Florida Section “Little Mo” in the 9-and-under division. Twins Charlie and Frances are playing competitively at the ripe old age of four.

Mr. And Mrs. Harold Timothy Pleasant, Ironton High School Class of 1967, of 1217 S. 9th Street are the parents of Bubby Pleasant of Daytona Beach who graduated from Ironton High in the early 1990’s after a stellar career on the tennis courts at Beechwood Park playing singles and doubles with his classmate Adam Lane.
