COAL GROVE — The South Point Pointers’ offense can be found from A to F.

That’s A as in Adams and F as in Fox.

Elijah Adams and Tayshaun Fox provided most of the offense for the Pointers with a combined 33 points as South Point held off the Coal Grove Hornets 47-46 in an Ohio Valley Conference on Friday.

Adams had 18 points and Fox 15 as the Pointers improved to 1-2 and 1-0 in the OVC.

The Pointers shot well from 2-point range — they were 16-of-29 — but made only 3-of-14 from 3-point range and converted just 8-of-19 free throws.

“We could have made it easier on ourselves if we had made three throw. But we took care of the ball a lot better tonight,” said Pointers’ coach Travis Wise whose team had 12 turnovers. “We cut our turnovers in half.”

Coal Grove (1-2, 1-1) was led by Datlon Miller with 14 points and Sam Angelo had 11.

Miller scored 9 points in the first quarter as Coal Grove went in front 13-8.

Adams scored 9 points and Fox added 5 more in the second quarter as the Pointers rallied to take a 28-26 halftime lead.

The Hornets rebounded in the third quarter to take a 40-39 lead as Sam Angelo scored 7 points including a 3-pointer for Coal Grove. Fox — with 7 points — and Adams combined for all the second.

Four different players scored in the fourth quarter as the Pointers rallied for the win.

On Tuesday, Coal Grove visits Portsmouth and South Point hosts Chesapeake.
