ASHLAND, Ky. — Thanks to some generous donations and the help of many volunteers, about 25 Ironton Middle schoolers got to spend Saturday afternoon shopping at Ashland Town Center.

The Ironton Police Department hosted its first Shop with a Cop, partnering with Ironton City Schools to provide clothing, shoes and toys to students for Christmas.

The students were bused from the school to the mall where they teamed up with teacher volunteers, police officers and even superintendent Dean Nance and Ironton Mayor Katrina Keith to shop for their items.

Teresa Ross, who works at the middle school, said the children were having a good time.

“It’s wonderful, it’s been great,” she said. “The kids are really excited. You can tell, they are just grabbing stuff.”

Each student had a budget of $200 thanks to an anonymous $5,000 donation to the IPD.

Following the shopping, the children were treated to lunch at the mall’s food court.
