Chesy, Rhoades roll by Redmen

CHESAPEAKE — It was a shootout between the Rock Hill Redmen and Gage Rhoades.

The 5-foot-11 senior guard scored 30 points in the first half as Chesapeake took a 45-23 lead and he finished with a career-high 36 points as the Panthers beat the Redmen 74-40 on Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Casey McComas and Kolton Webb scored 11 points each for the unbeaten Panthers (6-0, 3-0).

Rock Hill (0-8, 0-2) had three players in double figures as Tyler Damron scored 15, Mason Darby 14 and Cameron Barnette added 10.

Rhoades — who had 35 points in the season opener against Boyd County — scored 16 points in the first quarter as the Panthers took a 25-12 lead. Barnette had 7 points for the Redmen.

Rhoades knocked down 14 more points in the second quarter to more than offset 8 points by Darby as the lead grew to 45-23.

Chesapeake extended its lead to 57-32 after three quarter and outscored the Redmen 17-8 in the final quarter.

Chesapeake will play in the Newark Tournament on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 26-27. Rock Hill hosts Oak Hill on Friday, Dec. 29.
