Sluggish Pointers pull away from Senators

SOUTH POINT — New Year’s Day is nearly two weeks away but the South Point Pointers were suffering form their own kind of hangover.
The Pointers were coming off a big upset win over Portsmouth on Friday and had to play the Portsmouth West Senators on Saturday.
After struggling the first half, the Pointers came to life in the second half and beat the Senators 52-33.
“We walking in a daze the first half,” said Pointers’ coach Travis Wise. “We talked it over at halftime and made them realize they had to come out and play and they did. They woke up the second half.”
South Point led 9-3 after the first quarter but just 18-16 at the half.
The Pointers outscored West 16-8 in the third quarter to open up a 34-24 lead and then Elijah Adams was 7-of-10 from the foul line in the fourth quarter as South Point sealed the outcome.
The Pointers evened their record at 3-3 with the win.
“To get back-to-back wins helps us get some confidence,” said Wise.
Adams finished with18 points to lead South Point. Tanner Hall had 10 points and 9 rebounds, Tayshaun Fox got 10 points and 3 assists, and Jared Whitt pulled down 9 rebounds.
South Point had just 7 turnovers.
The Pointers hosts South Webster on Tuesday, Dec. 29.
