COAL GROVE — Coal Grove Lady Hornets’ coach Rick Roach told his team what they needed to do in order to win on Tuesday.

The Lady Hornets must have listened well as they snapped a five-game losing streak with a 56-26 win over the St. Joseph Female Flyers on Tuesday.

Coal Grove (2-5) was able to make 18-of-29 free throw attempts while the Female Flyers were just 3-of-4 at the line.

“We talked in the locker room about getting to the basket early and trying to draw some fouls. My bench was deeper than (St. Joseph) and we were pressing the ball which made it hard for them to sub,” said Roach.

Emily Compliment scored a game-high 16 points and Lauren Crum added 10 points as the Lady Hornets snapped a five-game losing streak with a 56-26 win over the St. Joseph Female Flyers on Tuesday.

“(Kasey) Murphy rebounded well for us. Compliment led us in scoring which is what she needs to do. We did better playing a complete four quarters,” said Roach.

Coal Grove took a 17-11 first quarter lead as Murphy and Crum scored 5 points each. Morgan Turner scored all 5 of her points in the quarter including a 3-pointer and Megan Riley had all 4 of her points for the Female Flyers.

St. Joseph managed just 5 points in the second quarter while Compliment lit up the nets for 11 points as the Lady Hornets surged ahead 32-16 at the half.

Five different players scored in the third quarter for Coal Grove to stretch the lead to 48-22. Lynsey Booker scored 4 points in the quarter for St. Joseph.

Booker had 8 points to lead the Female Flyers (3-6).

St. Joseph visits Ohio Valley Christian at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Coal Grove travels to Chesapeake on Monday for an Ohio Valley Conference game.
