Coach Nick Miller doesn’t mind taking the good with the bad, but not when the bad comes all at once.

The St. Joseph Female Flyers enjoyed the good for three quarters as they took an 11-point lead, but then the bad hit in the fourth quarter as the Sciotoville East Lady Tartans rallied for a 52-43 win on Monday.

“That was about as good a first half we’ve played all year except the first few minutes,” said Miller.

“In the fourth quarter we kind of panicked. We had the lead and couldn’t score. We just couldn’t get going like we did in the first half. But give East credit. They didn’t give up.”

Morgan Turner scored 17 points to lead St. Joseph (4-7). Lynsey Booker had a solid all-around game with 11 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. Ashley Bartram and Megan Riley grabbed 6 rebounds each.

The Female Flyers were 16-of-64 from the field for just 25 percent including 3-of-12 from behind the arc — also for 25 percent.

Shay Brown had 21 points and Peyton Helphinstein scored 16 points to lead East.

East took a 14-11 first quarter lead despite 6 points by Turner.

Booker had 9 points and Turner 7 as the Female Flyers rallied to take a 30-17 halftime lead.

St. Joseph led 37-26 after three quarters but then East outscored the Female Flyers 26-6 in the fourth quarter.

St. Joseph plays at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at New Boston.
