Chris Johnson

Nov. 26, 1953—Jan. 2, 2016

Dwayne Chris (Tilk) Johnson, 62, of Coal Grove, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, at King’s Daughters Medical Center, Ashland. He was born Nov. 26, 1953, in Ranger, West Virginia, a son of Lowell L. Johnson and the late Brookie A. Webb Johnson. In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by his stepmom, Mary A. Johnson; a sister, Karen Fyffe and a stepbrother, Lonnie Fry. Survivors include his children, Kristina (Clifford) Roberts and Shawn Johnson; a sister, Beverly A. Johnson; four brothers, Glendel Johnson, Larry Johnson, Marty Johnson and Calvin (Cindy) Johnson; a stepsister, Wanda (Kenton) Quint; a stepbrother, Keith (Sandy) Fry; his ex-wife, Annette “Nettie” Johnson; nine grandchildren, Hannah and Haley Johnson, Kaylee and Landon Roberts, Blake, Blane and Zayne Johnson and Brandtley and Jeremiah Johnson; and five stepgrandchildren, Alana, Cierra and Hayden Kerns and Devin and Ethan Roberts. The family will receive friends from 5- 7 p.m. Thursday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the funeral home to help the family with expenses. A special thank you to Lill Miller, Jannette and Don Adkins for their contribution to Chris. Delma Hardgrow

Delma Simms Perry Hardgrow, 97, of Huntington, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington.

Funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Huntington. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, West Virginia.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Mary Hagy

Mary Lou Hagy, 77, of Huntington, died Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at her residence. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home with the Rev. James Wells officiating. Connie Clement

June 19, 1941—Jan. 4, 2016

Connie Gaye Clement, 74, of Kitts Hill, passed away Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at her residence.  Connie was born June 19, 1941 in Scioto County to the late Elmer Ray and Erma Opal Robinson.  Connie was a homemaker and a member of Pine Grove Freewill Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Clement whom she married May 21, 1960 in Lawrence County.  Also surviving are three daughters, Leah D. McFann, Robin G. (Rick) Robinson and Tracy L. (Tim) Stewart; two brothers, Richard and Larry Robinson; two sisters, Lana Mays and Beverly (Kay) Bryson; eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11-noon Thursday at the Pine Grove Freewill Baptist Church, with the funeral service to follow at noon with Kenneth Klaiber officiating and interment will be in Sugar Creek Cemetery.  Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg is in charge of arrangements.

 

Ruby Crank

Aug. 28, 1928 — Jan. 4, 2016

Ruby Crank, 87, of Coal Grove, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia. The Carter County, Kentucky native was born Aug. 28, 1928, a daughter of the late Martin and Anna Wicker Justice. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Alvie H. Crank Sr., whom she married Jan. 30, 1945.

Mrs. Crank was a graduate from a Hitchins, Kentucky school and a loving and devoted homemaker.

She attended Campbell Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in Ironton.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by six sisters, Opal Watt, Blanch Martin, Dorothy Branham, Shirley Koontz, June Crank and Lula Johnson; and brother, Edgar Justice.

She is survived by two sons, Alvie H. (Jan) Crank Jr., of Ironton and Earl (Cathy) Crank, of Ivel, Kentucky; three daughters, Barbara (Glen) Adams, Ruth (Shawn) Wiley, all of Coal Grove and Betty (Bill) Kirby, of Minford; a sister, Hazel Elliott, of Mansfield; 10 grandchildren, Michelle (Scott) Vaughn, Sandy (David) Scaggs, Kristina (Mike) Dirling, Rick (Tammy) Crank, Randy Crank, Alison (Drew) Artis, Sara Crank, Amanda (Andy) Long, Andrea (Richard) Blackshire and Cody Davidson; 11 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at noon on Friday at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Bob Bradley officiating. Gene Kelly

Sept. 13, 1945—Jan. 3, 2016

Dennis Eugene Kelly, 70, of Russellville, went to be with the Lord Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016, at his home.  He was born Sept. 13, 1945, in Ironton, son of the late Frank and Alice Hickman Kelly.

Gene went into the military at 17 and served in the United States Air Force from 1963-1983.  He served three tours of duty in Vietnam and was involved in the Apollo 11, 12 and 13 missions.  He retired from Dana Corporation and was a member of the Valley Antique Car Club and the Honolulu, Hawaii Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and several aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Pat Kelly of the home; sister, Jane Griffith of Ironton; daughter, Laurie and husband Dan Brummer; son, Brian Kelly; three grandsons, Branndon Boos, Carter Boos and Andrew Boos, all of Salina, Kansas; nephew, Jason Griffith and wife Michelle of Ironton; and two half brothers, Paul Keith Kelly and Frank Kelly, Jr.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Dover First Assembly with Brother Jerry Patton and Brother Arron Elmore officiating.  Burial with military honors is in Moore Cemetery under the direction of Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins.  Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. today at Lemley Chapel.

Pallbearers are Chad Vestal, Dan Murphy, Dave Veeder, Jason Griffith, Branndon Boos, Tad Standridge and Doyle Adams.  Honorary pallbearers are members of the Valley Antique Car Club.
