shootout has openings
Ironton High School is hosting a one-day junior varsity and freshman basketball shootout on Monday, January 18.
The shootout is open to boys and girls teams. Participants will receive pizzas after the game. If you are interested contact Mark LaFon by email or phone (740) 532-5235.
Portsmouth Murals
banquet to be Jan. 13
The Portsmouth Murals, Inc., annual Baseball Banquet will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 13, at the Southern Ohio Medical Center Friends Community Center, 1202 18th St., in Portsmouth.
Social hour begins at 6 p.m. followed by the dinner and program at 7 p.m.
Guest speaker will be former Cincinnati Reds’ pitcher Tom Browning, a member of the Reds’ Hall of Fame and the only pitcher in franchise history to hurl a perfect game.
Banquet honorees will be former Reds’ scout Gene Bennett, Don Gullett, Al Oliver, Terry Craft, Larry Hisle, John Stephenson, Gene Tenace, Pat Borders, Greg Gibson, Tim Maxey and Josh Newman.

GCHS baseball plans
youth cage tourney
The Greenup County (Ky.) High School baseball team will host a four division boys and girls youth basketball tournament Feb. 7-14 at McKell and Wurtland Middle Schools.
Entry fee is $100 per team for the double elimination format. First and second place teams will receive individual trophies. Also, awards will be given for the cheerleading competition. There will be individual skills competition during halftime for each team.
No travel or AAU teams are permitted.
Division 1: 2nd grade and under; Division 2: 3rd grade and under; Division 3: 4th grade and under; Division 4: 5th grade and under.
