Trojans use 3s to top Panthers

PORTSMOUTH — The “3s” were “2-much.”
The Portsmouth Trojans knocked down 11 3-point goals en route to a 72-62 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Chesapeake Panthers on Tuesday.
Ky’re Allison pumped in 29 points including three 3-pointers to lead the Trojans to the key OVC win.
Kendall Reynolds hit a pair of triples and scored 20 points as Portsmouth improved to 4-4 and 2-1 in the league. Ethan Leonard had three 3-pointers and D.J. Eley added two more off the bench.
Chesapeake (7-2, 3-1) tried to keep pace as the Panthers made eight 3-pointers including five by Jake Stevens who scored 17 points.
Gage Rhoades als0 had 17 points and Brad Meadows added 10 points.
Portsmouth took an 18-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Trojans began to pull away in the second quarter. A layup by Reynolds and a 3-pointer by Allison after a turnover put Portsmouth up 39-25 at halftime.
The Trojans scored six unanswered points to begin the second half and built a 45-27 lead midway through the third quarter before the Panthers cut the deficit to 54-40 at the end of the quarter.
Chesapeake outscored Portsmouth 22-18 in the fourth quarter but the Panthers were unable to get any closer.
On Friday, Chesapeake entertains Ironton while Portsmouth hosts Fairland in league games.
