PEDRO — There was not repeat performance this time, and that was good news for the Coal Grove Hornets.

Coal Grove was 9-of-22 from the foul line on Tuesday that led to an 8-point loss. The Hornets took care of the problem by converting 15-of-21 free throw attempts on Friday in a 56-37 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Rock Hill Redmen.

Daniel Rutherford scored a game-high 21 points including 9-of-11 from the foul line and Jeb Jones came off the bench to add 9 points for Coal Grove (4-6, 2-4).

Tyler Damron scored 14 points for Rock Hill (0-11, 0-5).

Coal Grove bolted to a 16-5 first quarter lead as Sam Angelo scored all 6 of his points and Rutherford added 4 more.

Rutherford and Jones had 4 points each in the second quarter as Coal Grove stretched the lead to 26-12 at the half.

The Hornets went 6-of-8 at the foul line in the third quarter and Cole Gannon hit a 3-pointer to extend the lead to 39-22. Mason Darby and Jaret Bacorn scored 4 points each for the Redmen.

Damron got the hot hand in the fourth quarter as he scored 10 points including a pair of 3-point goals, but Rutherford scored 6 points and the Hornets were 4-of-4 at the foul line end any Rock Hill comeback hopes.

On Tuesday, Coal Grove is at Chesapeake and Rock Hill hosts Portsmouth in OVC games.
