WILLOW WOOD — This was shut down, lock down.

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings played on eof their best defensive games of the season as they clipped the Eastern Lady Eagles 54-34 on Monday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

The Lady Vikings held Eastern to just 6 first half points including only a foul shot in the second quarter.

“We played pretty good defense and we played hard. Our effort is never a problem,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Alvin Carpenter.

Breanna Brumfield had 13 points, 5 assists and 3 steals to lead the Lady Vikings (8-7, 7-2).

Meranda Hayes scored 10 points, Jensyn Shepherd grabbed 10 rebounds, Sierra Ross had 4 assists and 3 steals, Payton Walsh pulled down 6 rebounds and Kaitlyn Payne added 8 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals.

Carson Roney had 19 points — 10 in the fourth quarter — to lead Eastern (1-12, 1-8).

Hayes scored 6 points in the first quarter as Symmes Valley raced to a 17-5 lead.

Payne got 6 of her points in the second quarter and the defense did the rest as the lead went to 31-6 at the half.

Brumfield hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 8 points in the third quarter and the Lady Vikings grew to 44-17.

Symmes Valley visits New Boston at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
