As we continue to see programs facing challenges at all levels that range from funding to ineffectiveness, the Lawrence-Scioto Solid Waste Management District continues to provide a valuable service to Lawrence County through the myriad of events and work to alleviate illegal dumping.

The agency typically does a lot for the community with little, and these events continue to be an important part of our community that have the intention of cleaning up our county and region.

The organization hosts several events each year aimed at getting potentially harmful drugs off the streets and prevent illegal dumping among other things.

This year is no different, as the organization will host several events that include a Shawnee Park cleanup at the end of March and early April followed by the annual drug take back in mid April. In addition, the countywide cleanup day will be help on May 7 with the electronic waste event the following week on May 14. In June, the Ohio River Sweep will take place on the 18th, and the Hazardous Waste event on Sept. 24. The final event of the year will be Christmas tree recycling that helps the fish habitat at Lake Vesuvius.

Each of these events are very important to our communities, county and region. Continuing to support and contribute will help us all in the long run.
