One bad quarter costs Female Flyers in loss

Good + good + bad + good = almost.

The St. Joseph Female Flyers played well for three quarters but one bad quarter was too much to overcome as they lost 41-35 to the Fairview Lady Eagles on Wednesday.

“We gave a good effort and played pretty well. We had one bad quarter and it was bad enough that it did us in,” said St. Joseph coach Nick Miller.

Morgan Turner scored 5 points including a 3-pointer as St. Joseph took a 9-6 first quarter lead.

Lynsey Booker scored 6 points and Alyson Johnson scored 4 points as St. Joseph led 21-19 at the half. Samantha Reynolds had 6 points and Jessica Meeks 4 points for the Eagles.

Then came the bad quarter.

The Female Flyers managed just 5 points while MacKenzie Humphrey scored 8 points and Fairlview rallied to take a 32-26 lead.

Five different players scored for St. Joseph in the fourth quarter while Reynolds scored 6 points for Fairview as each team scored 9 points.

Booker led St. Joseph (6-9) with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Turner had 10 points, 3 assists and 5 steals.

Reynolds scored 14 points and Humphrey 13 for Fairview 6-8).

The Female Flyers were 14-of-40 for 35 percent and just 1-of-9 from behind the 3-point line. They were 6-of-9 from the foul line.

St. Joseph plays at 5 p.m. on Saturday at Glouster Trimble.
