SCIOTOVILLE — Coach Donnie Saunders had a simple explanation why the Symmes Valley Vikings lost 84-61 to the Sciotoville East Tartans on Friday.

“They’re for real,” said Saunders after the Vikings lost to the Southern Ohio Conference leaders. “They’re deep and they just overpower you.”

Akia Brown scored 23 points and Kyle Flannery 19 to lead East (11-1, 7-0). Will Shope and Drew Lowe added 10 points each.

The Vikings (4-8, 2-5) was led by Jarod Sheppard and Shawn Belville who both had a double-double. Sheppard got 20 points and 11 rebounds while Belville had 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Flannery scored 7 points and Shope 5 more as the Tartans jumped out to a 22-9 lead.

Brown had 6 points in the second quarter as East opened up a 43-19 halftime lead. Belville scored 8 of the Vikings’ 10 points in the quarter.

Sheppard scored 8 points in the third quarter but Brown had 13 points and Lowe 6 more and the Tartans stretched their lead to 66-34.

Sheppard scored 10 points and Belville 8 points in the fourth quarter as the Vikings outscored the Tartans 27-18. Flannery had 8 more points for East.

The Vikings visit Portsmouth Clay on Tuesday in an SOC game.
