A new poll shows Ohio Gov. John Kasich moving into second place in the New Hampshire primary.

The poll, released Tuesday by American Research Group, put Kasich at 20 percent, seven points behind real estate tycoon and reality TV star Donald Trump in the nation’s first presidential primary for the Republican presidential nomination

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida, was in third place at 10 percent.

The poll of 600 likely Republican primary voters was taken from Jan. 15-18.

The numbers show a boost for Kasich from the last poll, taken by ARG from Jan. 7-10, which had him tied with Rubio for second place at 14 percent, following Trump at 25 percent.

Kasich’s national numbers have remained low, though. The most recent survey, taken by NBC and the Wall Street Journal from Jan. 9-13, put him in eighth place at 2 percent.

Kasich is hoping for a good showing in New Hampshire to boost his national chances and has concentrated the bulk of his campaign’s events there.

He spoke of his efforts in New Hampshire in an interview with WABC Radio host Rita Cosby last week.

“If I get smoked in New Hampshire, then you know kind of the ballgame is over…because then it becomes very hard to raise money,” Kasich said. “But I just don’t think that’s the way it’s going to be.”
