A winter storm warning issued by the National Weather Service in Charleston remains in effect until 7 p.m. Saturday for Lawrence County and the surrounding area.
As of 4:30 p.m. Friday, NWS had reports of about 8-9 inches of accumulation for the county from winter storm Jonas, but totals are expected to continue as the storm progresses, meteorologist Mike Charnick said.
He said the storm was tracking about as expected so far, and that final totals for some areas could reach as high as 18 inches.
Wind gusts up to 20 mph may accompany the snow, which is expected to taper off and stop sometime Saturday afternoon.
Officials warn of impassible roads, fallen trees and power outages. Motorists are advised to avoid the roadways due to hazardous conditions.
As of Friday evening, AEP reported no power outages so far in Lawrence and Scioto counties in Ohio or Cabell and Wayne counties in West Virginia. Kentucky Power had no reported outages for Boyd or Greenup counties.
