Deadline for 1st half is March 4

Despite a foot of snow and chilling temperatures, the first half county property tax bills went out in the mail on Friday.

“They started hitting people’s mail boxes and we have already had people come in making payments,” Lawrence County Treasurer Stephen Burcham said.

Approximately 55,000 bills were sent out. Bills for manufactured homes go out this week.

“There are the same payment options,” Burcham said. “But if they pay by the web site with multiple parcels they can do it now in one shot.”

Recently, Burcham upgraded the website to allow more than one bill to be paid in a shopping cart fashion. Previously, each parcel had to be a separate transaction.

“We already have had several people use it and have gotten good reports in terms of use,” Burcham said.

Other ways to pay are by mail, in person at the second floor office of the treasurer or at the following banks: US Bank, Citizen Deposit, City National and Liberty Federal.

“If somebody hasn’t gotten a bill because of the snow by the fifth of February, if they would call, we will send another one out in their direction,” the treasurer said.
