WILLOW WOOD — The Symmes Valley Vikings have had offensive troubles this season. Shawn Belville solved that problem himself.

Belville scored 20 of his career-high 32 points in the fourth quarter to rally the Vikings past the Green Bobcats on Monday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“We have those periods when we have trouble scoring. But Shawn got in a zone in the fourth quarter. He didn’t want to lose it,” said Vikings’ coach Donnie Saunders.

Belville also had 14 rebounds and four blocked shots for the Vikings (7-10, 4-7). Payton Hayes added 10 points and Jarod Sheppard grabbed eight rebounds.

Tayte Carver scored 20 points, Tanner Kimbler 19 and Hunter Lewis 11 for the Bobcats.

Belville scored seven in the first quarter to give the Vikings a 10-8 lead.

Green rallied to take a 27-25 halftime lead. Hayes hit a pair of 3-pointers, Collin Webb got six points and Sheppard hit a big 3-pointer in the quarter.

Belville and Sheppard combined for nine points in the third quarter but Green pulled away to a 50-39 lead.

Then came the fourth quarter with Belville scoring 20 points, Hayes hitting a trifecta and the defense holding Green to six points.

Belville made six field goals and was 8-of-12 from the foul line in the fourth quarter.

The Vikings were 16-of-27 from the line for the game and 10-of-16- in the fourth quarter.

“We rested some people and then came back with our starters and Adams and Smith and they played a heck of a quarter,” said Saunders.

“Green played a nice ballgame. They just kept coming at us. We just had that surge in the fourth to win it.”

The Vikings host Western on Tuesday and visit Portsmouth Notre Dame on Friday.
