SOUTH POINT — Maybe Travis Wise didn’t play a second during the game, but he proved to be the glue that held the South Point Pointers together.

When things started to pull away, Wise called a timeout and got his team back on track as they beat the South Gallia Rebels 58-43 on Tuesday.

The Pointers had built a 19-point lead in the fourth quarter, but four straight turnovers enabled the Rebels to cut the deficit to 12. That’s when Wise called a timeout and settled his troops.

“We didn’t play bad. We got in a bad stretch in the fourth quarter where we turned it over and they cut it to 12, but we got it together and started doing the things that got us the lead,” said Wise.

Sometimes young players lose their focus and you have to get them back to what you’re trying to do and they did that. Give them credit.”

Tayshaun Fox had 14 points and eight assists while Chris Woodard scored a career-high 13 points to lead the Pointers (7-10).

South Point shot well from the field, making 20-of-35 shots for 57 percent.

Landon Hutchinson scored 16 points and Joseph Ehman 10 to lead South Gallia (14-3).

The Rebels were 17-of-36 from the floor for 47 percent.

Woodard scored nine in the first quarter to propel South Point to a 16-9 lead.

The Pointers’ offense stalled in the second quarter with just six points and the lead was sliced to 22-19 at the half.

South Point extended its lead to 37-29 after three quarters and led by as many as 19 in the fourth quarter.

Fox scored 10 points in the fourth quarter including 6-of-6 from the foul line.

The Pointers were playing without starting forward Tanner Hall due to an injury.

South Point is at Gallipolis Friday and hosts Wheelersburg Saturday.
