HAMLIN, W.Va. — Pick your poison.

The Coal Grove Lady Hornets placed three players in double figures and had all five starters in the scoring column as they beat the Lincoln County Lady Panthers 48-46 on Wednesday.

“We’re getting scoring from everyone and that makes it hard for a team to focus on one person,” said Lady Hornets’ coach Rick Roach.

“Team effort equals team win. The girls are learning this and that is a great thing to have.”

Emily Compliment scored 17 points, Kasey Murphy had 11 points and Lauren Crum got 10 points for Coal Grove (8-11).

The win also enabled the Lady Hornets to avenge an earlier 48-44 loss to the Lady Panthers.

Roach said his team made it a lot harder than it could have been due to 9-for-23 foul shooting.

“We did not shoot free throws well at all in the second half and that allowed it to be a close game,” said Roach.

Lindsey Prichard scored 16 points and Taylor Adkins 11 points for Lincoln County (8-9).

Coal Grove took a 13-7 first quarter lead as Compliment scored seven points.

Prichard had eight points in the second quarter as the Lady Panthers cut the deficit to 24-20 at the half.

The Lady Hornets were 0-for-6 at the foul line in the third quarter and scored just six points as they fell behind 31-30.

Compliment scored seven points in the fourth quarter including a 3-pointer and Murphy added five more as the Lady Hornets rallied for the win despite making only 3-of-10 free throw attempts.

Coal Grove visits Ironton on Thursday.
