PEDRO — If Friday night was a shooting match, the South Point Pointers wouldn’t have been allowed to enter.

The Pointers were just 17-of-43 from the field for 39 percent but still managed to beat the Rock Hill Redmen 52-37 in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“We did not shoot the ball very well,” said Pointers’ coach Travis Wise. “We missed a lot of layups, especially early in the game, and we got up about 14 or 15 points and let them right back in it. We’ve done that all year.

“But we played hard and we got a win. Rock Hill is scrappy. They played hard, too.”

South Point (8-13, 6-7) had three players in double figures. Tayshaun Fox had 15 points, six assists and four steals off the bench.

Elijah Adams also came in and scored 12 to go with seven rebounds and two steals. Tanner Hall had 11 points and eight rebounds.

Mason Darby scored 16 points to lead the Redmen (0-22, 0-14).

South Point led 8-7 at the end of the first quarter and stretched the margin to 21-12 at the half.

Rock Hill rallied to get within 35-31 at the end of the third quarter, but the Pointers began to pull away in the fourth quarter.

South Point hosts Fairland on Saturday.

Both teams will play in the Division III sectional at Jackson. South Point faces Oak Hill at 6:15 p.m. on Monday while Rock Hill meets Wheelersburg at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
