Margaret Burks

July 20, 1949 — Feb. 12, 2016

Margaret “Candy” Burks, 66, of Salem, Virginia, passed on Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, at the Lewis-Gale Medical Center in Salem, Virginia. The Lawrence County native was born July 20, 1949, the daughter of the late William Green and Nettie Ward Green.

Mrs. Burks attended Ironton High School and was a homemaker. Candy loved being with her family and grandchildren. She was a Christian, loved frogs and doing arts and crafts.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Terri Chaffins and Mary Sue Green; brother, Paul Green; and niece, Tracy Chaffins.

She is survived by husband, John Burks, of Salem, Virginia; son, Paul ( Ginger) Burks, of Ironton; son, Carl (Diane) Burks, of Salem, Virginia; son, John “Bill” (Lisa) Burks, of Bucyrus; brother, Jack Green, of Bucyrus; and sisters, Jade Hurst, of Ironton, and Nancy Mulkey, of Bucyrus.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with Brother Dave Schug officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Ruth Williams

Ruth Evelyn Williams, 84, of Crown City, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, West Virginia. Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at Crown City Wesleyan Church, Crown City, with the Rev. George Holley and pastor Mark Leist officiating. Hazel Hope Workman, 87, of Chesapeake, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at Best Care Nursing and Rehab Center, Wheelersburg. Private family services were conducted at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point. Burial was in Union Hill Cemetery, Chesapeake.
