PORTSMOUTH — And the band played on.

And so will the Green Bobcats and Portsmouth Clay Panthers after their Southern Ohio Conference game was called after seven innings tied 2-2.

“We were able to grind it out. We made six errors, but we also made some great plays as well,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.

Josh Karshner worked all seven innings for Green. He gave up seven hits, struck out 13, walked two and neither run was earned.

Green took a 1-0 lead in the first when Tayte Carver got a two-out single, Karshner singled him to third and Trevor Carver singled for the RBI.

Clay took a 2-1 lead in the second.

Brody Riffe reached on an error, Drew Hadsell drew a one-out walk and McGwire Garrison had a two-our RBI double. A throwing error allowed the second run to score.

Green (5-5, 4-0) tied the game in the top of the seventh with two outs ona walk to Rylee Maynard and a double by Tayte Carver over the lefttfielder’s head.

Clay (2-4, 2-1) loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning but Karshner pitched out of the jam.

Tayte Carver was 2-2 as Green got five hits.
